Choose the Perfect Paint Colors for Your Home
When it comes to choosing a paint color for your kitchen, living room, bedroom, or bath, you may feel a little nervous. There are just so many choices!
Don’t stress about it. Choosing a paint color doesn’t have to be hard. Start by thinking about what kind of mood or ambience you want to create in a room.
Cheerful and inviting? Think shades of warm colors, such as yellow, red, and orange.
Interested in creating a calm and relaxing look? Consider colors on the cool side of the color wheel, such as blue, violet, and green.
Or if you’d prefer a sophisticated and modern look, go for neutrals like white, black, or grey.
Pick Colors That Match Your Mood
Now that you’ve determined the atmosphere you want in your room, consider the psychology of each individual color:
- Yellow is a bright, energetic color that is uplifting and joyful. It’s an especially popular color for kitchens.
- Red is very stimulating and can inspire feelings of excitement and liveliness. Consider red for rooms where you gather for social events, such as a dining room.
- Orange can invoke feelings of joy and creativity. It’s also believed that orange stimulates appetite, so a kitchen or dining room are great places to use this warm color.
- Green is the color of spring and all things new. It’s said to be calming and encourages relaxation, making it an ideal color for the bedroom.
- Blue is a calming color, too. Darker shades can promote relaxation, but lighter tints make a room feel cold. The right shade of blue is perfect for bedrooms or family rooms.
- Violet is a regal color and evokes a feeling of luxury and romance. Dark shades convey elegance in a living room or dining room, while lighter tints work well in bedrooms or baths.
- Black is a bold choice that can send a message of mysteriousness and drama. Be wary of too much black however, as it can tend to make a room look small and dark.
- Gray is a versatile neutral that pairs well with a variety of other color accents. Use it for a stylish look in almost any room.
- White is often paired with a contemporary décor. It is clean and classic and works well in nearly every room.
Finally, remember that paint is one of the easiest things to change in a room. Of course, you don’t want to paint all your walls with pumpkin orange only to discover that you really hate pumpkin orange.
Instead, buy smaller paint samples. Make sure they’re a shade or two lighter than what you think you want, as paint tends to look darker once it’s dried. Then paint a small area to find the perfect paint color for your home.
